What can I use to edit GIF animations?

I have some basic GIF animations with some frames I would like to edit in them. Can someone recommend a simple to use free software I could edit them with? Nothing I have seems to do it!

I use adobe image ready to edit animated gifs but as for free software i would recommend u go on download.com and search for gif animators on there. That is what i used to do before i got adobe image ready.

If you find little luck with the above items, you may benefit from searching www.download.com who have both free and priced software.

PaintShop Pro is easy to use..but it is not free..

Be carefull about GIMP...it changes all your image icons - also after you have uninstalled it..

I still think that you can get best or near-best results if you just make your animation in Flash and then export it as a gif. I haven't tried the aforementioned gif animation programs but I suppose Flash is at least as powerful as them and you'll achieve the results you want.

I'm assuming you're talking about use in Windows.. When you install GIMP, it asks if you want it to reset file associations.. say NO. It doesn't actually change the icons, just the file assocation.. which means it changes which icon is displayed for those files (to whatever the default app is)

Do a search on alchemy mindworks and see if they still produce Gifcon, which (back when I got it years ago) was a good freeware animated gif editor.
