How do you stop someone from going to like frontpage and opening a page up on your site to edit it?

It depends on what you mean by 'edit it'.
HTML source code is available from any browser by using 'view source'.
However, in order to access the file on the server, modify it, and replace the file on the server, the person would need direct access to your server over a standard protocol - such as FTP, Telnet, SSH, etc.
As long as you have either enabled username/password protection on open ports on your server, or disabled those ports, you shouldn't worry about people 'editing' your files.
