A Stupid Question

Hi I am Lisha 52 and new on this board and to HTML and anything to do with building a website. Can some explain a defference between websites and webhousing/hosting are they the same thing or what? And why does someone need a domain name?

I have played with website with the menu type like Homestead. But I want to move up and make my own if I can. What i would like to do is have a side bar type thing where you put the links but when you clikc on that link I would like the page to open to the right of the sidebar. Someone told me that was frames not sure though lol

Lish

Try to make your post titles more descriptive in future. A list of bad ones can be found here.

For help with HTML, look here.

Put simply, a website is a bunch of HTML pages and graphics. In order to make these available to the rest of the web, you need to have it hosted somewhere. This means, you copy your bunch of HTML pages and graphics and whatnot onto someone's computer which is connected full-time to the internet.

If you want to be able to access your website on the internet, you will have type something into the address bar of your browser. This will generally be your domain name. The domain name will be set up so that it will point to the server computer of your web host (see the above paragraph).
