Each hosting company provide different services (shared, VPS, Cloud) and have advantages and disadvantages. You could try searching in google for desired kind of hosting company.

I must agree with you on this. Google is your friend and you should use it to the best of your ability.

After you use Google for your research, I would recommend calling the hosts up directly that meet your requirements.

Do they have a toll-free phone number? How long does it take them to answer the phone? Ask to speak with technical support and see how responsive and friendly they are.

These are the people that will be there for you if your site is down or server has problems. Getting hold of them should be as easy as possible. A reputable host should always have easily accessible support available 24/7/365.

Only one of this island? I'm confused...did the OP specify 'legit' hosting by location?

Your website is hosted in Houston, TX (granted, some Texans like to think of their state as its own country, but I'm fairly certain that parts of it are land-locked ).

Where are the servers you're hosting on then? Or are you reselling someone else's hosting?

It is easy to check whether any web hosting provider is a legitimate business or not. You do not do lists of legitimate hoisters. Any serious company must be an incorporated business! Otherwise it is not possible to operate.
