Bargains are not always worth it
I just wanted to convey a very recent personal experience in which I switched from a very stable host for one which seemed to offer large packages at low prices that I saw here.
I'm not going to mention names but as soon as the DNS's updated my site was down. It was down for hours, I went on their forum and everyone was complaining with no response from administration. I found out through their forum that many of their customers had a downtime of about 50% even though their website boasted an uptime of 99% and they had a status page that showed all servers working (whether they were or not). Thankfully, I never cancelled my account with the previous host and quickly made the decision to switch back. It made me look..... incompetent slightly for making such a bad choice. Just a warning to everyone, a good host may not give you unlimited space/bandwidth for $0.50/month but you may be much happier later on. Of course if your looking for something free I guess you take what you get.

I went this morning to that 'cheaper' host's forum, that server is STILL down (or at least its not up all the time) however it shows it online and running on their website.

I will second that comment.
I switched from a reliable host to one with a nice looking package, and although the downtime hasn't been as bad as it has for you guys, it has certainly not been nearly as good as it used to be. I'd say it dropped from 99.9% to about 85% I should really have expected it i guess. ![]() |

So now I'm paying more but I can sleep at night and not wonder if my customers are happy or not

I see my post concerning midphase hosting was removed. They were who I was referring to in the post one of this thread.

Yeah, I had one of those cheapies for a while. Unlimited bandwidth ... sheesh. A lot of good that did when the users got throughput par with a 200 baud modem!
Yeah, it was almost always up. Meaning, if you were patient enough to wait half an hour, the site would eventually come up :-\ |

I've posted this message on another forum, but the idea is simple - I am just curious when people will realize that actualy KIA is not a better car than Mercedes, both are designed with different ideas in mind?
I think the same is valid for the hosting companies. |
