Best Serving Platform?

What platform is the best for serving on? Are there any benchmarks? Im using Windows XP Professional with Apache at this time. I heard alot about FreeBSD, what does everyone think?

It is just my personal preference.
I have more training with those 2 OS's then any other.

I'm sure others have different opinions

Is Red Hat easy to start hosting on? I mean, as far as program compatability and whatnot.

I think CentOS 3.4 is stable... works nice with cPanel.

Fedora isnt bad either

Either something like Redhat or SuSE, but, if you are daring (like me), you could use something like gentoo.

What the hell does it matter if youre daring or not, does Gentoo provide positive effects over suse or redhat or what, this isnt a "if you have linux skill what distro do you use, and brag about it" thread....Anyways, sorry if that seems hasty. I asked, what is the best serving platform, or are they basically the same?

It all depends on what you are going to be serving... For example, if you are going to be hosting ASP, it will be best to go with Windows. If you are going to be hosting like most other standard web hosts out there, then a stable flavor of linux may be your best bet. Choosing an operating system should not be taken lightly unless its for personal use. If it is for a production environment, ensure that all other software will work hand-in-hand.
