Domain Name Privacy

I'm looking for a web host and domain registration and I noticed that some offer "domain name privacy" for about $9. How does that work?

Probably,

You register with them, sign some contract and such, and they buy the domain name for you. Kinda like a reseller: they own the name but they "sell" it to you. That way their information shows up during a WHOIS search on the domain instead of yours.

Not as bad as it sounds. Just make sure you're going through a reputable place.
