Drawbacks of Free Hosting

I frequent much larger web hosting forums, and consistently see posts made by those who have found that their 'free' webhosting had serious drawbacks.

First there is no government agency, grant program, or imaginary planet where a hosting company can afford to offer free hosting at no cost to their customers. Even if they setup hosting on their personal computer, in most cases, its a matter of time before their isp catches up with them.

Second many hosting companies will offer free hosting because they have just started and either need posters in their forum to make them appear as if they have been in business much longer, or a clientelle which they plan to charge a much higher rate in the future.

Third what I see happening is people post that their hosting company has gone out of business (they run out of funds hoping for higher paying customers), complain of poor support and/or downtime, or are forced to pay a much higher monthly rate.

My $0.02 but repetitive examples of the above are factual.

Hi,
AGREED. www.geocities.com is an exception cause its run by yahoo, but they have advertisements to fund. Still, they have to keep up lots of space!

Its better to go with a low cost host who offers a 30 day money back guarentee. If you pay by paypal or credit card, if the company doesnt refund you can always get your money back. Ive only refunded one customer

Right now, I am offering plans at $1.99/year. Check it out <<

Free hosts have their place in the market. If you put up a site about your cat with cute pictures of it wearing sunlgasses, etc....i think the free hosting is a great place. If you are running a business, you should be able to put down some $$ in order to have a quality host.
