Unhappy e-agency?

anyone have any experience with e-agency, based in sf?

i was hired too long ago to do a redesign of a site hosted on e-agency's servers.

the project has gotten derailed and i feel like i've been totally blocked server-side.

online documentation/support is nonexistent; i've sent many many emails requesting basic information that have gone unanswered.

going into the project (according to the contract i have, my obligations are primarily client-side) i had certain expectations: access to raw log files, for one. i also (silly me) assumed that there would be some sort of user control panel.

when the time came for me to upload a working beta of my redesign, the host gave me simply a username and a password so that i could upload files. beyond that, nothing.

now one of the first problems i encountered was that users must type in the full http string to access the site (http://www.redesignedsite.com), else they get a 403 ("forbidden") error. so if they type in "redesignedsite.com" they get this big ugly generic 403 error. i found this alarming and the fastest workaround i could think of was to create an .htaccess file redirecting users to the index page. but alas the .htaccess file didn't work, probably because of the way the directories had been set up.

just wondering if my expectations were unreasonable. anyone else have this sort of experience?

I've never heard of the company before. Run over to webhostingtalk.com and see if you can dig anything up there.

Does http://redesignsite.com work? Is it the need for the http or the www? http is normally added to the domain name automatically by the browser. Could be a DNS issue, though normally the problem is the other way around.

Nevertheless, you should express your concerns with your client. Explain the problems you are having with the hosting company, how they are affecting you, and ultimately how those problems are affecting their company. And then present an alternative.

thanks so much, jharnois.

oh, i have expressed my concerns with my client. and expressed them, and expressed them. verbally and in writing. and oh, i have presented alternatives, and presented them, and presented them, verbally and in writing.

my wish was to move the site over to hostway (which, if i'm not mistaken, is the host for this site). initially she agreed; the only thing left to do is for her to contact hostway and give them her credit card info. but that last step keeps not happening. she said that she wants me to walk through the process with her. gladly, i said.

i think maybe it is a dns issue.

no, http://redesignsite.com does not work. it only works with the full string: http://www.redesignsite.com.

btw, that's a dummy URL as i'm sure you know...

thanks for the info re: webhostingtalk.com. i'm off there now.
