Experiences with portland

Hi all,

Can anyone give some comments on their experiences with the hosting services from portland.co.uk?

I've always had very good experiences with f2s for php and mysql, but they're starting to charge for their services. Therefore I'm looking for something new and found portland.

Starting in march aspwebserver.com should be starting to offer free services as well, does anyone know what we can expect from them?

have to use www infront - they just 'assumed' everyone does that... but it doesn't change them, they still suck big time - basicly like any other free host.

They are known as being a bad host on pretty much all webhosting message boards. You can check out the boards or search at www.freewebspace.net and the boards at www.webhostingtalk.com. Freewebspace.net would definately have more info on them. The problem with most people is they offer a very low amount of data transfer and they are slow.

Portland is known to be very slow. They announced in an e-mail to ban some types of message boards, to speed up their service.

Whenever I use FTP to transfer data the pages upload, then dissappear without trace.

I get a out of diskspace message when I've used only 10% of my quota.

The service keeps going down.

Possibly more, but they stand out.

The best i found for free are uklinux.net but you do have to use their isp for uploading which is not too bad.

This is just my opnion i havent had many probs i have tried portland and to be honest i couldnt even log on to get my pages up so i gave up

Well now they've got an FTP server shutdown so there's been no chance to get at your pages since 8.40 UK time last night. Fantastic, they have convinced me to pay for the service from free-online. Only thing is, I can't get to the PHP pages to transfer them across
