Finding cheap webhosting--any advise/suggestions?
Hello everyone,
I'm planning to have 2 small websites for a family business. I don't expect to have high hit rates (of course it would be good to be able to upgrade my plans in case I forecasted too low) and I don't have a big budget either. I'm planning to register domain names with yahoo with their promotion of $4.98/year and get hosting either from: 1) GlobeDomains 2) Iamyourhost 3) navabyte Any one here have any advise regarding yahoo's domain name registration or any of the web hosting companies I'm considering? Or does anyone have any other suggested companies I should consider for domain registration and webhosting? For webhosting my budget is $10 or less to host both small sites. I would expect both of them to be relatively "static" sites although asp.net would be good though. Thanks everyone in advance Regards, Jay |

The only problem I have with yahoo at all is that if you need help after you are out of luck. Try finding a phone number to call a human, I challenge you

Jay,
I highly recommend GoDaddy for domain registrations. They are easy to deal with over the phone and are fairly cheap. Their control panel for the domains is simple to use but powerful. More expensive than your Yahoo choice, but I register all domains there personally. |

If you are looking to buy .co.uk domain names then I would go to 123reg.co.uk
They are £6 for 2 years. |

Tips? Expect to pay at least 50 cents per gb bandwidth for 24/7 support and reliable servers. More tips located on www.webhostingtips.info

Yahoo has a bad service. Is even bad when you want to take your domain name to another Registrar. They force you to play a cloak & dagger thing.
But, If is the price go for it! You can get cheap hosting from GarageCoLocation.com not only do they offer hosting for 3.00 Dollars a month. They also help people out with free hosting through their iHostFree.com website. Enjoy. |

Hey,
Yep... its the support and reliability which must be taken into consideration. For domains, you can pay more and get better support. I have a client who owns http://MadRooster.com, and they charge more for a domain than godaddy, except the support and service is much easier to get. For hosting, find a provider whom is able to provide for quick email responses, or some sort of phone support at the least. If you go for a cheap provider, they may be good at first, but if they shutdown, your money goes to the trash.
