Getting a reseller package done...
Greetings!
I have just registered a reseller webspace package, since I wanna be able to hand on some webspace over to some friends with own access etc. The reseller webspace I registered uses WHM/Cpanel for control panel. Now I am totally unfamiliar to all that stuff and donīt get a few things: 1) In this package are private nameservers included. Now I wanna have that nameservers being called like my domain, that I already registered ages ago at another provider. Calling it like: ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com What I donīt get here now is, how exactly will I have that done? I need somehow to transfer that domain to my reseller account, while I as well need the nameservers to be called like the domain and that domain being as well hosted on those nameservers. Seems a little paradox to me, but from all that I read it can be done, but I simply canīt find anywhere how to. I really would be glad if someone could give me a step-by-step introduction on how to do that ![]() 2) As mentioned the control panel is WHM/Cpanel. Now I have the prob with WHM, that even though I can included in my reseller package host unlimited amount of domains I need to open 1 account for each domain that I wanna have hosted on the nameservers, since when I go to "add DNS entry" in WHM and trying to add an entry it would simply not show (e.g. when going then to the "edit DNS entry" the domain I added would not show in the list). But I would need to do more than 1 DNS entry per account I create. Like e.g. having 3 domains all for one account. Does anyone know how to do that? Thx for taking the time to read through all that. best regards, mithril |

ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com needs to be registered with the place where you bought the domain name in the first place. As a reseller you will be given 2 IP's for the name servers. You need to ensure it is done either in your domain name control panel or you email the support of where you bought the domain and ask them to set it. (Your host should have told you this already).
Yes you create the account like normal and then choose to add a pointer in WHM to the new acount. If your not sure how do that you should checkout the knowledgebase on our site that walks you through this stuff: http://www.monsterhosting.ca/knowle...ougar/index.php |

Making the needed changes to your domain registration will be fairly easy if you registered the name yourself. If your last host registered it for you, you have a couple of options.
1. Go to your last host and ask them to make the changes, but before you do, check http://whois.net and make sure your the Registrant/Administrative Contact and verify who the technical contact is. Getting them to change the information can be simple and fast or almost impossible. It depends on the company. 2. Go to another registrar and create an account, then have the domain transfered to yourself. Again with this option you need to make sure of all of the contact information, because generally an email will be sent to the owner requesting confirmation. If your the Registrant/Administrative Contact and the email listed is yours, you should be alright. If it's not or if the email goes to a domain that's no longer hosted, your only choice is option 1. Now for the second question. You can create accounts in WHM and it will automatically create name server entries for those accounts/domains. You don't need to take any action to point them to your name servers and you have very little control of the zones outside of cPanel. The DNS function in WHM isn't really needed except for unusual situations. Mainly, if you delete an account, you can decide to keep the DNS zone and point it to another server. It really won't let you create a DNS zone for a non-existent account. Quote:
This would either be a parked or addon domain. A parked domain will show the same page as the accounts main domain. An add-on domain will resolve to a subdirectory in the main account. Either way, you would enable the function within WHM for the account and put the end user in control, or create it within WHM for that account. Lastly, your required to create a package within WHM, before you create an account. So try that and see if it works. WHM/cPanel installations vary so some of the information that I've provided may not be absolutely correct, but it should give you a general idea of how they work.
