good company for registering domain names
I was wondering if someone could suggest a good company for registering domain names who can also provide DNS server hosting.
I currently administer multiple web servers and have been using Register.com exclusively. I like their web based interface for pointing the domain and aliases to my servers' IPs, but due to other problems with their service, I want to migrate all my domain names to a different company. I've had bad experiences with NetSol in the past too, so if someone can suggest someone else, that would be great. Thanks. -Cliff |

I suppose if I wanted to outsource all web hosting and lay myself off that site would be extremely useful

godaddy
I use godaddy as our sole registrar. They are cheap and the domains are added very quickly.

Right now I'm in the process of evaluating hostway.com and catalog.com as potentional domain registrars. I have a couple of dummy domains and I'm moving on over with each to see how they perform. Hostway looks to be very slick and straightforward, but Catalog.com also offers very inexpensive POP/Webmail accounts so it might be useful to have that all at once place.
I'll let you know how things pan out with both of them. |

godaddy.com
To be honest, I am not a professional Web Designer or anything like that. I do some side work for a company called hounddogtours. You can look at my site. URL if you'd like (no real reason, it's not even good)....Anyway. I have used them to register 9 names in total. The last being about 3 minutes ago. lol. I would suggest them because they have support. it is not a toll free number but it is good support. They have talked to me many times and have been terrific. Granted, some of their people just read off of a screen but the majority of those i have talked to have been very knowledgeable. Their assitance was not limited to only registering domain names but assitance with hosting my account with a competiting company. I quickly cancelled my other service and began hosting with godaddy. I have zero complaints. Now, if you want to get right through to the support, you may have to wait 5 mins on the phone but that is generally only during the daytime. As you can see by the time on this post, I am up late. I would suggest that, if support is needed, you give them a call later on at night. They are based in Arizona (Pacific Time) So keep in mind that while it is midnight here (EST), it is only 9 there and you may experience a minute or two wait on the phone. But when i call them around 3 (midnight their time) I always get through and depending on the techie you get, they might just be able to talk you through other things like hosting as they did with me or html questions.
I don't guarantee that they will kiss your butt, but they came really close for me. I have absolutely no complaints and they have a terrific track record. Everyone has always told me about them and that they are good. one last thing. I can't say that their prices are unbeatable but I haven't found anyone with their prices or very near (some range from $15 a month up to $35 or more). Don't take my word for it, ask a few web techies. I'm sure i won't be the only one that replys to this and I'm sure i won't be the only one recommeding them. take care Dan Parker Last edited by danparker : July 12th, 2003 at 02:07 AM. |

I use GoDaddy.com: $8.95 new registrations, $7.25 refugee, and lower rates on bulk registrations.
They allow create subdomains to point at NS IP. |

does active domain have the same STRICT antispam policies as GoDaddy?
activedomains page says "Domain Registration > $9.95 or $8.95/year **" doesn't sound like the great bargain you decribe ![]() though, unlike GoDaddy they provide: - 250 email forwarding addresses for your domain - 250 host names or sub-domains with URL forwarding - You can point your domain name to any IP address or URL on the Internet with two types of URL redirection/forwarding. There's no-advertising, no popup banners and no delay for your URL forwarding! You can choose to let your visitor see your domain name only (cloaked) or the actual web address but they like to spam you - Established customers will occasionally receive information on products, services, special deals, and a newsletter. and they give you the same BS "opt out" nonsense - Out of respect for the privacy of our users we present the option to not receive these types of communications. - Customers are not able to un-subscribe from service announcements, which contain important information about the service. |

I have been using Hostway for almost 2 years and I love their services. Right now, they are offering domain name registration or renewal for $6.95/year. Can't beat that.

I ended up settling with DynDNS.org for domain registration and DNS hosting. Not only does the company contribute to the open source community (mostly BIND) but they also offer free resources to the everyday Joe and members of the Perl community.
As far as their services go, they're great. I've registered 3 domains through their site and haven't had problems with any of them. The price isn't the greatest - $15.00/yr for a domain and $24.95/yr for DNS hosting - but unless you're doing bulk hosting I think it's worth the extra money. Nice support, too. |
