Just like the title, what is a good host for forums? I'd like to start one for my class.

Hello,
You could start with some local shared hosting provider, which support PHP and MySQL, and upgrage later if needed.

For sure. This can be done a number of ways.
Have a look at surf-host. They can offer starter hosting from one dollar a month. That will allow you to get your forum going as well as being able to mail members from the site and have backps.
The other option for your needs may be a free host, look at the home page of surf-host again, they have free hosts at the bottom of the page.
Go with the co.cc fast-host one. That would prob be best for your needs

It highly depends on the number of threads, members and traffic of your forum. If you have a very active forum with a lot of threads and members, you should buy a dedicated server for it but if your forum is new and its small now, you can host it on a shared server too.

personaly i would start with just webhosting and work your way up the ranks, but as for a good host, im not 100% sure...
but any host with good server uptime, speed and support should work just fine..
before signing up, always read the tos, just incase

If you are new to forums hosting and other technical stuffs i will advice you to go with webhost who offer you FREE tech support (24x7 would be a good choice)
cPanel supported hosting packages would be a good option for you to start as you can easily install supported forums, just a few client installation process.

Try godaddy or marblehost for meeting your needs, the OP.
What forum software are you going to use, the OP?
