Host Search.What are the common problems

Hi people,

I am looking for a web host, I am using php with mysql. I'm new to this hosting thing and pretty much have no idea what to do.

What should I be looking for. For eg, downtime, hidden charges, support....etc What really is the difference bteween a good host and bad host......I'm sure its not just about the money, which seems to be the main focus when surfing around.

Since you need PHP and MySQL, you should take Linux Web Hosting.

Make sure your web host provide control panel for web hosting. Control panel provides you lot of control over your web site. Popular Linux control Panels are

1. Cpanel
2. Plesk
3. DirectAdmin

I prefer Cpanel, because i am using it for years. Many suggest Plesk for security. But Plesk seems complicated to me, may be because i am a cpanel user.

As for selecting web hosting provider, look for some one who is in business for atleast 1 year and are real business. There are lot of part time web hosts.

Price, it depends on what you need. Still you can find many web hosting providers with different offers by searching www.google.com

Uptime and Downtime, if you choose good provider, most of them have good uptime. Still don't expect to get 100% uptime.

The 2 things I suggest to those looking for hosting.

1) Test their support at 3 intervals through out the day to see the response and the time to get a response.

2) If you can phone them do so and see what the person on the other end can say. Ask them anything like what plan would be right for you and get a feel if that company reflects you.

There is no perfect host just a perfect host for you!
