How are you lowering your web hosting costs?

Hi.

Does any one have any good ideas of how you can lower your web hosting costs? I've thought of the following ideas:

- Hosting your site with a host who allows you host more than one domain in an account.
- Making sure your host offers enough disk space and bandwidth you need. Don't want to pay excess.
- Becoming a reseller.
- Sharing a multiple domain account with a friend, college or family member.
- Finding a host who won't charge any further fees for specific software (e.g. media player, flash, WAP, etc...)

Feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

How about leasing your own line so you dont have to pay for bandwidth and using your own boxes so you dont have to pay for space and extras?

A friend and I have our own server co-located at an ISP, so we only pay $100 a month for all the websites we want, with any content we want. Granted, it's only on a T1, but still...

You might not wanna do this unless you're fluent with system administration, or know someone who you trust that is.

use stargateinc service

I think URL service allows u to configure domain pointer yourself.

Domain pointer charges within a hosting account is chargeable, but if you do outside using Stargateinc's service, domain pointer serviceis free.

Other than that, you can try to purchase hosting services, paid on a 12 month basis. Usually yearly payment is always %25 to %40 pecent cheaper than monthly payment.

well, generally speaking - any major university will do, ISP is better, but network engineer is the best.

Candice,

Remember that although most hosting orders are placed online with fixed prices and options, hosting contracts are negotiable.

We called our host and said, "We can't afford this. We're shutting down." They cut the bill in half. The one "advantage" (if you can call it that) that we had was the fact that the statement was true. It's an entertainment site, and not a significant source of income. Although we like the site we were fully prepared to pull the plug if we couldn't lower expenses.

Keep in mind that we probably already paid for our box many times over and they're better off keeping it plugged in at half price than having us out of the picture for zero dollars.
