I know few things on it, if you can add few more.
1. Set up you domain at new server / host. 2. Upload files at new server. 3. Change domain name servers. 4. Keep site at old as well as new server during domain propagation. That would do. |

Some even recommend not to delete the site from the opl account for a week or more to ensure the best uptime.

What about web site monitoring?

Web monitoring can only tell us about the site being up or down, it cannot ensure that it remain up.

2 weeks is the max term of propagation I know of.

It all depends on the DNS change and the cache of the different providers but keeping the site on 2 servers for 5-7 days will do the job.
Good Luck! A.

You should lower your TTL to 5 minutes. Although some servers will ignore it, at least you'd get most to change immediately. You should do this 24-48 hours before the migration.

Lower your TTL (time to live) on your DNS servers. Then, move the site to the new server while the old one is still online. Use your local hosts file to test to make sure the move went smooth, then cut over DNS and wait for it to propagate (24-48 hours) before pulling the old machine. Once done, if yo have dynamic data, I would copy over the databases again. |
