You need to purchase space on a server from a web hosting provider.
Take a peek in the web hosting forums here on devshed, on click on the 'web hosters' link at the top of this website.

as far as i know most hosting providers will not upload a site for you, nor will they set up a site you have designed without charging you a little extra for their time, which is understandable. You should be able to upload it the same way you have built it with the same folders, etc. But I can't say that 100%, more of an assumption.
I don't use access so I don't know how their databases are stored. But for php and mysql it is pretty simple to upload your site.

You could always install Apache!

You will need a hosting service running Windows NT based server that allows you to have access database files. There is some term for this, but forgive me has I have not opened access in about 3 years. I think its a DSN connection or something like that...
If your site is already done and working locally, then this is you best option. However in the future, it would be worth while to consider using php/mysql because MySQL is much more web friendly and the editors for php/mysql development is getting much better than when I first started with the stuff in 1999. The major problem with Access is that its scablity stinks unless Access XP has some vast improvements. I believe 100k rows or about 2GB of data is about all Access will hold without driving performance through the toliet. MySQL is at least 40 Million rows and 8GB (that is the largest I have personally ever seen) and its performance will hold on par with that of Oracle to a point as well. Now that will proably start the good ole flame war, but its just my humble opinion. (awaits "PostgreSQL is better and you should try firebird posts...) |
