hello razahasnain,
I remember not so long ago, being in your predicament. HARDWARE: - I would recommend a processor about 2.4Ghz as this is stable, however, 1.8Ghz would suffice. - RAM memory is the key to a good server. Use a motherboard with Dual Channel Memory support, as you can double the of performance memory. Use 512MB DDR as opposed to SDRAM as it is much more effective, and I would recommend 1GB (2x 512MB - enabling dual channel), but 512MB total should be enough. - Tip: Get a graphics card with memory over 64MB, as it frees up system memory. - Hard Disk space depends on the size of your website! A 7200RPM harddrive offers faster speed, and perhaps a one with buffer memory could optimise performance further (eg 8MB buffer) SOFTWARE: - Windows 2000 Professional is a good idea, as its the next best thing to Windows 2000 Server / Advanced Server, or even Windows Server 2003. Windows 2000 Professional is the cheaper option to the server families. Windows XP Professional is also a possible option. - Server Software - Apache all the way! - Don`t use IIS (my opinion!) because its annoying - Apache`s harder at first but its worth it! - Why do you think everyone uses it??? - MySQL and PHP within apache should be all you need for databases. INTERNET: - Broadband is typically 512Kbps Inwards - but only 256Kbps Outwards - Sending data out requires the outstream, thus you will only be able to send 256Kb per second out. This should be enough - Especially considering the prices for higher speed connections. Broadband is typically £25 a month. I hope this helps you, because it`s what i chose!
