looking for ded box

Right, i am looking for a dedicated box for a college in England. They want it in a datacenter, preferably in the UK, but as long as no physical visits are required can be anywhere in the world.

They are looking for a FreeBSD (preferable) or Linux box, for under $150 / month. These are the minimum specs they have given me:

• 100Gb Transfer / Month
• 1.3 Ghz processor (any type)
• 40Gb HDD 7200rpm
• 512Mb RAM
• 99% uptime guarantee or better
• reputable company
• all the normal connections/power/ups etc

they are also looking to run CPanel on it with a education (free) license.

Please advise me on anything you know of,

Rackshack immediately comes to mind. Their servers are unmanaged but exceed your specs.

what about the RAM? the standard package is fine. but only has 128mb... i might be able to persuade their IT team if its cheap enough.

P.S. and no computer it's not who I was with whith huge downtimes I just moved to this guys because some of my clients were with them and I hear nothing but the good things about them. And now I know firsthand that good thigs were nothing but the truth - excellent customer support with amazing network.

yeah. i was looking at your domain and stuff and traced you to theplanet.com, they look pretty good.... which server have you got there? and hows the server fixing going Al?

Another recommendation for ThePlanet. 4 servers there for the past 5 months with outstanding network uptime and reliability. I am truly amazed with their level of professionalism.

the basic idea of the project is to make something like RealXL, where students have webspace, theres a forum, etc. Two things I need to know:

1. Al, what spec server is the new RealXL one?
2. Anyone reccomend a good domain place where there are unlimited subdomains included in the price?

hey norm I didn't know you were with the planet nice to know - that explains you great service, because I started thinking great uptime on yoru host was actually your achievement

computer, I got one of their specials (the 2.4ghz one) and am very happy with that. And one more thing - most of theplanet boxes are not managed so you get control over everything on the box including dns (hence subdomains) - it's not shared, you have to set up everything. Hardly my idea of fun
