Nothing's free any more. Plesk is a well known commercial one.
If you're looking for free, you got to do it yourself.

If you are starting a web hosting company don't you think you should buy software?

I recommend that you look into cPanel and Ensime if you are running a Unix based box.

If you are running windows I would suggest HELM then.

If you don't mind working on the code, web://cp is catching up with cpanel:

Hey Monster,

What other software is there on the market like these?? I just looked at Ensim and it looks good for the price. Cpanel just looks like far too much money for me. What else is out there? I searched for similar stuff, but nothing much turned up. Suggestions?

Thumbs up

Hi,
Well there are lots of available. Depends on what all are you going to provide to your users. Try out H-Sphere, it is costly but it gives you all the flexibility and a central commnad for all the servers in your cluster. There id Hosting Controller for Windows. You have to do a bit of research before deciding an adequate CP for your needs.

Well their is also HELM and a few others that are not as well supported. I do suggest you look into cPanel though as you can automate your business with tools like WHM Autopilot.

You can also find resellers for cPanel out there so you don't have to fork over so much to get it. I would stay with cPanel over something like webmin. If you are serious about starting a hosting company don't sell your self short with something that may end up costing you customers later.

If you started off with a reseller account most come with some sort of control panel for you.

I also would not recommend trying to host out of your house as most ISPs will block ports on you, and most ISP will not accept email from your servers if you are not paying for business class services.

Good luck!
