I got a hosting package with versehost maybe 3 years ago back when they were NOT owned by "VH Technologies". My plan was their (at the time) top of the line shared hosting plan and everything worked fine. Speeds were high, customer support was great, things actually worked. Enter VH Technologies. They bought out VerseHost and over the course of a few months I saw the following happen:
- Server response times way above acceptable often timing out (the server loads were CONSTANTLY in the red) - Complete lack of CPanel speed/functionality half the time - Decreased quality and speed in customer service (they got rude, too) - Numbers of prolonged outages (30+ min at a time, at least once a month I believe) - AND MORE Not only that, but they "lost" my billing information and tried to bill me not just more than I was signed up to pay, but right in the middle of my already paid for yearly billing cycle. This happened TWICE. Their FTP server towards the end (last 2 months), almost completely stopped working, dropping connections, failing to accept PUTs, etc. Did I mention that my correspondence with support was ridden with rude, write-offish replies (eg. our servers are getting a lot of hits, maybe you should try back later). I know two other clients of theirs which are having even worse problems than I did. Their CPanels both stopped working about 5 months ago and when they contacted VerseHost about this, Support’s reply (and I'm quoting these clients verbatim) was "Sorry, that’s just what happens" and there to date has still been no solution to both of their CPanel outages, nor any compensation at all. Oh, and my CPanel license (which they manage) stopped working one night and was out for over 24 hours. To finish this all off, when I contacted them to close my account, it took 1 email, 2 trouble tickets and almost 3 days to even get a response. If I’m out of line in thinking that this is unacceptable, please let me know! |

Yes that is really poor.... alot of web hosting companies out there are like that (not all of course)
But they offer you untold riches for amazing prices.... and mostly it isnt true.... its basically a scam... |

I think its a bit to much to call versehost a scam as it is starting to become one of the most well known hosting companies.
I am sorry to hear about your experiences. But I think the experience and knowledge you gained from this host will help you in the long run to avoid situations like these from hosts. =) In anycase, I think with all reviews needs a domain to validate the review. |

Fair Enough
My website is located at www.angry-lizard.com. I do offer hosting but only with my reseller account which i just switched to from versehost. I also, only offer it to clients so with this post i would stand to gain nothing.
To prove I was hosted by versehost: here is the domain i currently still have hosted on their servers www.carbonweb.net (yes they still have not removed the account from the server) and my angry-lizard.com domain used to be hosted as a subdirectory of this domain (in fact you can still see that too: http://www.carbonweb.net/ali) so check the nameservers if you need to. i was hosted with versehost. and further more, i wasn't posting to moan about my horrible hardship, i was posting to warn others who may be thinking of hosting with someone. and no, i dont host non-design clients so like i said i gain nothing from saying this. |

I am not accusing you that you weren't telling the truth or anything like that. I am sorry if it seemed that way.
I've just been around the forums a bit to long (WHT) and people are calling company's scams left and right. The only reason I asked for the domain is because it really wouldn't validate your post if you didn't. I've seen page long threads about a host they never used...or hosting company's setting up reviews to make themselves look better. =P |

VerseHost service
angrylizard,
While I am not able to find the rude responses in trouble tickets that you mention, I would like to thank you for your comments regarding our service. We value any customer feedback whether positive or negative. It is unfortunate that our service did not meet your expectations. Our average trouble ticket resolution time has gone down since VH Technologies, LLC acquired the company. The technical support department managers are the same people as before the ownership change and improvements are continually being made. Have a great day and good luck with your new web host. |

Oh don't worry, I already am having a much better time. Like for example my CPanel loading in less than 2 min on a 3Mbps connection. It's refreshing.
Oh and I see your oh so responsive team (who can never be reached over the phone) finally managed to remove my account off the server over 2 weeks after I closed the account. |

Our policy is not to comment on specific clients or past clients so the following reply is based on information given from angrylizard's posts. I'd like to caution readers of this thread as it is obvious that there is major exaggeration in several instances. One example is the cPanel complaint. VerseHost is a former cPanel Partner NOC and adheres to high server administration standards. It is impossible that on a production server, cPanel stops working for five months and I doubt that those clients would still be using their service for so long if they could not access it. At this time we do not provide telephone support. Account deletions are put in to a queue for manual verification and deletion. We do this so that our clients have a last opportunity to retrieve their files if needed when the cancel their service. We are glad that you are happy with your new web host. |
