probably not too many. A T1 line was standard several years ago for web hosting... But its almost unheard of for a host to use them any more. A t1 has a 1.5 mbit upstream/downstream.
My cable internet connection here at my house will allow me to download at 1.8 mbit or so (although my upload is capped very low)
If the sites are not graphic intensive, or do not have any file downloads then you could throw a bunch on a t1. However,... if you start hosting sites that have files for download etc your line will be consumed very quickly and anyone viewing sites on your servers will be slowed to a crawl.
If you are looking to host sites... I would consider co-location or a service like rackshack.net
There your server will have access to Much Much larger internet pipes
Hope that helps
