Domain names can be registered for as low as ~$8 per year through a number of companies. Once your domain is registered, most companies allow you to control your nameserver entries via a control panel. There are some hosting companies that will register your domain and make the nameserver entries for you, but many times you loose the ability to make your own changes. I would stay away from this kind of deal, since making these changes are generally easy. Your nameservers will be given to you by your hosting company and are used to point your domain to your site.
Your choice of companies basically involves your method of payment and extra services you would like to have. Here is two that I use (my company included) and I'd be happy to help you with using either, just PM me. http://godaddy.com http://fwwebs.com

cool, so i can pay $10 a month for the server, and then like $8 for a domain name and 'link' them together? i can probably get as many domain names as i want then right.. and just point them to the host?
again, i know that this is baby stuff but i've never had to do it like this.. this server/host doesn't include the domain name ![]() |

Well, some companies only allow 1 domain name to be used with a particular hosting account. Some companies offer free "add-on" or "parked" domains. This will allow you to host additional domains on the same hosting account.

If you spend a little more than just $10 you could get a reseller or multi-domain account and host almost all the domain names you want. That's a very generic statement of course - but it should point you into the right direction.
