Server or Network Guarantee?
How does a hosting provider differentiate between network and server uptime.
In Serverpoint.com Policies I read that they offer 99.95% uptime guarantee We guarantee that 99.95% of the time your web site will be accessible via IP address to the world. Does this refer to the network or server uptime? How do clients know when to ask for refund? |

Basically the host is guaranteeing that their network will be available 99.9% of the time, while protecting themselves from having to provide credit if your server is crashed by one of the numerous services running on a typical webserver. Say you have a ton of traffic to the site and HTTP crashes. If this happens, the host's network is up, even though your the server is down. Unless you have some type of monitoring agreement with the host, they are not responsible for the downtime between when it crashes and when you request a reboot.

All refund questions are well-written in the legal documents of ServerPoint.com. If I'm not mistaken this company provides 30-day money back guarantee. Am I right?

Some companies differentiate between server and network uptime like Webhostgiant.com (99,9% and 99,99% correspondingly) others like Ahosting.biz give just one figure both both of then (99%).
It's up to the host how to state this in the TOS, and as an end-user I am interested in the highest possible uptime in both instances. Last edited by burton : June 4th, 2008 at 10:02 AM. |

I think the difference between network and server uptime guarantee must be not very big or even it must equal. Say Ahosting.biz gives them the same as well as ServerPoint.com. And it's fair.

I guess no one host may guarantee 100% uptime even if they state about that. ServerPoint.com at least writes about that sincerely.

I have seen that WebHostGiant.com differentiate server and network uptime. They guarantee network uptime 99.99% and server - 99.9%. As you see network is more stable value than server uptime. Do you know what it depends on?

Guess 99.95% uptime is a good figure and ServerPoint.com stick to it. From time to time some glitches occur in the servers and it's natural.
WebHostGiant.com differentiates even server and network uptime and that is also true. But the greater part of the companies state the common uptime not going into such details. |

DownTownHost.com guarantees network uptime to be 100%. This guarantee assures that all major routing devices within their network are reachable from the global internet 100% of the time.
