Standing Out
What are you doing to distinguish your business from other hosting businesses? It seems that the variables are price, packages and service, but everyone is competing intensely on those things. How do you make hosting profitable?

Don't mean to be rude but...thank you Mr. Obvious ![]() Probably the best way to be unique is to focus your hosting company's service on something specific instead of being a plain ol' "Web Host." For instance: you could be a JSP/Servlet specific host, and focus on clients looking for hosts that deal specifically with this type of service, because not a lot do. Or you could host clients looking for a dedicated Shell server. VPS is also a good idea. I'm sure there are others, but those are the three that I could think of at the top of my head. |

No pun taken but the question did not seem like much of an inteligent question, so I left a non-inteligent answer. Thing is, you gotta find your own way to be unique, then your clients will love it. Not go by someone elses idea, this is one of the big reasons we have been so successfull.

Most web hosts look a like nowadays. It's hard to stand out from the crowd. I personally think that first class customer service will be the first step to stand out.

I try to put all my eggs in the customer service basket. I've literally spent a whole day on the phone with one customer to get them setup correctly and happy. To me it means much more than giving them unilimited everything and the server is always down and they have no one to call.

Hm, I am not too sure about design. Many websites of web hosts look very much the same. After you have seen the 3rd one ..... - Unless you try something completely different like forum style (httpme.com) ....

I think that to stand out you need to listen to your customers.
We do yearly reviews with our clients and ask they what they would do differently if they could. We learn a lot from our clients. |
