static IP setup IPCop and RedHat8.0 etc.
I am attempting to set up a web site to run from home, so that I can learn how it all works (Please do not try to sell me hosting services - I already have a couple of commercial hosting services with my business sites on them who would happily add my home site for no extra cost.)
I currently have:
i) An ADSL 512/128 connection (which I can upgrade to (512/512) if speed becomes an issue) with a provider who allows hosting.
ii) A fixed IP address, and 8 others (6 usable) which I have "bought" (ie hired) off the provider, and which they tell me are all now routed to my initial fixed IP address.
iii) An unhosted domain name registered in my name.
iv) An IPCop box with three NICs (one 'Red' to ADSL Modem, one 'Green' which goes to internal network switch, one 'Orange' which goes directly to DMZ machine).
v) A well configured RH8 Linux box (512Mb RAM, 2GHz CPU, 80Gb Drive - with EVERYTHING from the distribution CDs installed) hooked straight into the IPCop box 'Orange' NIC to be used for DMZ purposes including hosting.
As a first step, I would like from an external location to be able to browse to one of the purchased IP addresses and be served with a static page sourced from the RH8 box (I don't wish to serve directly from the IPCop box).
Has anyone successfully done something similar, or does anyone know how this might be accomplished? I have attempted to used the (IPCop box) port forwarding facility (redirecting HTTP requests to the RH8 box) without success.
Thanks,
LW
