Do they still charge per 3years? their servers are a good deal for the UK but if i recall correctly they charge you upfront for 3years...

prices have gone up as they have improved their servers, and there is an option for a one year deal now, at a higher rate of course ;-) Not sure but I think the new one year deal isn't that far off the old 3 year deal in terms of price!

I was mainly wondering if that bandwidth is enough for several popular sites. Guess I'd better do some research!

servers

If your looking for a server in the UK then you will be hard pushed to get more bandwidth than uk2 for a similiar prices.

We get our servers from the US as its just better financially for the bandwidth that clients can require.

20gb/month for a dedicated server is fine if you wish to have your server in the UK. If you require support then your will have to go elsewhere than UK2.

At this price you can get support and a better server from the US. Granted the hops are greater when you traceroute but overall clients are happier as they are getting hosted!

what do you require?......you basically need to think what you need control panel wise, disk space, backup, bandwidth.

if your not too fussy then theres quite a good selection out there...

if your looking for control panels that has reseller capabilities then this is also available

rackshack do a great range and are often out of stock

at the moment they have 9 each of the following:

ensim or plesk control panel, AMD 1ghz, 512ram, 40gb hd, 300gb transfer. $99 per month + $349 setup for the ensim or $119 per month + $369 setup for the plesk (200 domains license on plesk)

if your interested in these and they are good notch servers let me know! as we are affiliates with them.

rackspace are another good company but many find it difficult to beat rackshacks prices at the moment.

hi,

thanks again for your comments.

Never seen a control panel operated server, but I could see them being quite handy if you can administer dns, mail, websites etc. via the panel.
Was looking for a dedicated server that I can telnet to with full root access etc. so I can install whatever takes my fancy on the software front. Not looking to host any dodgy content etc. Just would like to be able to install any useful software for any particluar projects that come along.

Would have liked to be able to use a unique IP addy per site but that doesn't seem a very popular option with most of these hosting companies.

Looking for a fair amount of bandwidth, though I don't know what a fair amount of bandwidth is!!! :-) Sounds like the 20gig per month is acceptable.
Backup is a definate, plus good guaranteed uptime.

Sounds like I'd better do a bit of investigating! Thanks again. Might give you a shout in the near future :-)

stuff!

Goto www.rackshack.net and take a look at the ensim they have there quite effective.

Theres lots of control panels out there cpanel, hsphere, plesk all run on unix boxes....cobalt servers have their own basic panel which is quite good to start with. enables you to create sites, upload .pkg software which is then installed onto the server.

You also have root access to upload and run rpm's etc

bandwidth the $100 million dollar question. Some companies do this by average, 95th percentile, total bytes in/out.

Average is simply your average over a month
95th percentile is your highest usage averaged out over a month
bytes in and out is what goes in and out! rackshack do theirs this way.

20gb is fine if you dont use a great deal.....but again it depends on your clients....some we have use 60-70gb per month

If you need any further help ask!
