What am I doing wrong?

I have had several reseller accounts with several companies. First, I consider myself a very nice person, so I don't want to name any names or hold any grudges. I am just so frustrated I am about to go crazy. Everyone makes all these fantastic claims, major players and small companies, but I am constantly confronted with all kinds of hindrances and problems. Is it me? Am I doing something wrong? I play by the rules. I am courteous, but it seems I keep getting the shaft.
Right now I have one of my accounts offline, because my server people will not fix the DNS. The registrar has confirmed, and shown me it's not on their end. I have a company with a domain, and I can't tell them why there website is offline. Speaking of registrars, what is up with them? I think I have finally found a registrar that will answer emails, and give support. Of course I thought that before. I've had registrars change the expiration date on domains, and expire domains, so that I can't get them back online without paying 100 dollars. It's one thing right after another.
Right now I am trying to change servers, and I am downloading files to move to new server. At least I was. This won't work either.
The list goes on and on and on and on and on. Is there someone I can complain to, when companies rip me off?
Or, is the internet the wild wild west with everyone fighting for themselves?
If someone answers this post, you will probably say find a better host, and you might even offer an alternative. But, this is what everyone does. They say they're not like the other companies, but then they are.
Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? I am just about at the point of tears.
Thank you!

I'm not going to offer our service but more a point of understanding.

I agree that it is very hard to choose a host that works for you. You can complain in forums but then usually you get slagged for posting something bad about a company. What I would suggest you do at this point is take a deep breath and just come up with a plan to fix your problems.

As for companies ripping you off, you should complain to your credit card company and get your money back. You can also report them to the BBB online and an open complaint will remain on them even if they are not a member. If they are a member then they need to resolve it.

I'm not sure how you have been chosing your hosting companies and to me how some people choose there host remands a bit of a mystery to me. If I ever need a service I ask people I know and trust. I do not come on-line and look for reviews or ask others for there opinion. The reason I don't is who are they? why should I trust them? how do I know they don't work for the host? or get free hosting for giving recommendations?

If you don't know anyone locally that knows of a good host then look into joining a local tech group, linux group, web designers group. You will make friends and be able to find out locally who they suggest you go with.

Thanks for the suggestions. I haven't tried locally. I know some people I could ask here in town. Maybe I could get some ideas from them.

not only asking around locally, but maybe even find a local host if they are available. Having a face to face meeting is always a good idea.

If you have several reseller accounts - maybe it is time to get your own server. Even if you outsource server administration it might be an affordable solution that gives you total control.

You can complain to the BBB in some cases however we mainly see posts like this when someone is having problems with every host they go to. For instance, a month ago I read about a problem someone was having with each host he goes too. After talking with him a bit more I found out that he could have prevented it easily. This was his situation

1st host offered him: 1000 mb space, 30 GB bandwidth for $7 a month. This host disappeared without warning. Chris paid a year in advance for this package. 12x$7= $84 wasted.

2nd host offered him: 500 mb space, 25 GB bandwidth for $5 a month. Chris paid 3 months in advance. 3 days later, server went down. Has not come up since...

3rd host offered him: 2000 mb space, 30 gb bandwidth for $9 a month. For the first month things were great. Then they sold out to another company. Chris' monthly fees went up to $20 a month. Chris moved.

4th host offered to match 3rd company: 2000 mb space, 30 gb bandwidth at same rate as 3rd ($9). Chris' uptime for this month was 86%.

5th host: Chris signed up for 2000 mb space, 45 GB Bandwidth for $21.50 a month. Chris' uptime has been 100% so far this month. Chris is finally happy. Chris now understands you get what you pay for.

It all depends how you go about your partner companies. If you always go for a price and you have a bad luck you will always have problems and unresolved issues.

I don't know what is the benefit of people not providing you with fair services - unless they don't know what they are doing or they are not doing it because they have no time, or maybe you are doing something wrong and you don't understand that you are doing it wrong.

As a company we have been on both sides, we had problems with partners but we have learned from our mistakes very fast and try not to repeat the same mistake again. We also have clients that do not understand that they are wrong, or do not understand what they are doing and the only thing that they are good in is complain, complain and complain - rather than look into the problem and resolve it.

My advise is to watch with who you do bus with and dig into the details of your problems and try to avoid them in the future.
