What I need, now who's the best
I currently run a site that has several online browser-based strategy games that has been running fine on a shared account, but its time to move to a dedicated solution.
I am averaging around 300 players across three different games, but two just came out of beta stage, so I plan to begin adding more users and need a host that can provide scable services. What I need: Hardware: Processor: P4 >1.5Ghz Ram: At least 512MB, preferr 1GB HD: 2x20GB RAID (one for back up purposes) SCSI if possible for main, IDE accceptable for backup Bandwidth: >100GB/month (the more the better) Software: OS: 1st choice: OpenBSD 2nd Choice: FreeBSD 3rd Choice: Solaris (either Sparc or x86) 4th Choice: CobaltRAQ Linux I would be willing to consider RH linux if the price was right DB's: PostgreSQL MySQL I will need them both for different tasks. MySQL works great to handle my CMS system, I run my games from PostgreSQL. I would like for these to be set up when I take the server. Some type of control panel, Ensim, Plesk, or Cpanel & some type of GUI database admin. Yes I can do everything via command line if I have too, but not all my admins are as well versed in command line Unix as I. IP's: >=10 The other requirement is that I need to be scalable, meaning that as users increase I will need to move to a clustered system. We estimate that it will be over a year before such services are required, one must be able to provide a reasonable rate equal to or cheaper than Verio.net for clustered units fotrgrowth in the future. Gee, sound like I am demanding? ![]()
