What is the best for the forum VPS or semidedicated?
Hello there! Friend of mine in need to move his forum. That is the private one. What would you recommend go with VPS (I think that Serverpoint.com or MicroVPS.com or serverint.com might be good for him) or Semideicated (jaguarpc.com or westhost.com)?
What you recommend? And what is difference? |

I have 3 questions... What kind of forum is it and how much use does it get in turms of monthly traffic? Why are you looking to move it?

In terms of VPS ServerPoint.com is the right choice as they provide a wide range of VPS deals at affordable rate. For a semi-dedicated WestHost.com might be all right. Quality services with excellent support you will get from them. |

A) In 5 days, tolerant hasnt been back to reply to the questions asked... So why would anybody bother posting info when the thread started has not been back? B) He was asking which would be best, not who to host with... I know this will sound rude, but it seems from the short time I have been using this forum that there really is very little reading/listening going on, but a whole lot of "posting links" for host's going on. Whatever happened to actually helping somebody by asking a few straight forward questions anymore? Why is it when somebody post's a question here on devshed, they get bombarded with links, not answers? Not very community like is it? |

Sorry can I be busy or? I have seen offers on the http://www.wesh.co.uk/vps/ - looks rock solid, but I'm afraid i will have troubles with them as I see they have extra rude stuff (in here at least). I would better skip it. jaguarpc.com has very polite guys and I think that that is their success as well as guys from hostgator.com or gazzin.com. Polite people do attract, rude ones scare me away because If they talk in the rude manner with you before signing up (pre sales phase) that will be nightmare. There are no slaveholding nowadays. |

I am not rude here buddy, I just tell things how they are, which sadly, due to the lack of any physical expression on a text based forum, is often mis-interpreted. Its very difficult to explain or describe things using only text, its almost like people will mistake it for being rude or hostile if you ask any frank or straight forward questions??? I am very much like that, I'm very direct, to the point, and very prompt, which is why our company gets such good feedback, because I hire the right staff, and were very strict with any suppliers, yet have a total open door friendly attitude towards people who employ us. Its a shame were not having this conversation face to face, it would sound very different, and I'm sure we'de all be sitting round enjoying a beer maybe...? |

I am being polite, but the constant bad grammar and unhelpful post's in this forum are really annoying. Maybe if people actually filled in their profiles to show where they are from, then at least the grammar is understandable if it isnt very good, and if people just said why when they post endless links to companies, then this also helps, and doesnt just look like spam. Several other forums that I visit daily wouldnt tolerate this at all, yet it seems there is no moderation going on here at devshed, is there? ps, dont start a sentence with the word "and" because its a continuation, not a beginning. @OP:
The semidedicated server is just large shared hosting. If you neeв mor admin rights yopu shoould have a VPS, but if the administration is not very important - and the webspace is an issue - get semi-dedi. |

For the start I would recommend you to get semi-dedicated. Larger space and bandwidth would have to be enough for forum, and there is no need to waste money on VPS.
I would recommend you looking up downtownhost.com, because their semidedicated accounts are really atractive as for me, and hopefully for you. |
