Which distribution to pick
Can you give me some advice. I would like to put Linux on my machine but I dont know which distribution to pick.
I would like a system where I could develop web aplications. So I would need to instal PHP, Mysql, Apache, maybe Perl on this system. In the future I would like to open this machine to outside world to server some small project sites and host a FTP server. Can you help me? Thanx blaz |

All the Linux distributions will allow you to do what you want. The difference between them isn't as great as you might have been led to believe. Have a hunt round some of the Linux sites and see what you can find, as this question has been asked and answered hundreds of times.

If you are able to install Apache, PHP, Mysql, etc., on your own I would go with FreeBSD or Slackware.
If you are unable to do so, I would reccomend a distro that includes this software, such as SuSE, Redhat, or Mandrake. |

device cannot be accessed
I have a problem instaling slackware. Everything works untill Setup should start reading from CD. I downloaded packages from FTP mirror and they are in the root of CD. Maybe they should be under slakware?
However, when I start installing I get a massage "Your device cannot be accessed properly" I'm booting with bare.i disk image so it should work since I use Sony CDU55E cdrom. When I choose source for packages it seems to be OK. I guess there can be to problems. Wrong bootdisk or wrong path on the CD. Can you give any advice Thanx Blaz |
