Which first: domain name or hosting?
Hi,
I want to buy a .ie (ireland) domain name. But I want to buy hosting on servers that are in America. Should I buy the domain name or the hosting first? Say I buy ww.mysite.ie and I have hosting with joeBlogshosts.com....who or how do I get in contact with to map ww.mysite.ieto the account I have on joeBlogshosts.com? Are there any extra costs to be taken into account? Thanks

Normally a host requires the domain name before they can setup your account. It shouldn't matter what the TLD is as long as you have control over the nameserver entries at where you register your domain at which is pretty mucg standard with any registrar. SO you shouldn't have any problems. I would register the domain first though before ordering hosting.

Hi there
To expand on (and agree with!) what Jason said - the best way to do it is to register your domain first with a registrar such as 123-Reg or eNom, etc - this will give you complete control over your domain name i.e. if for whatever reason your host goes under you can simply point your domain name to a new hosting account. This is done very simply by specifying the 'nameservers' for your domain name to point to the servers your chosen host use, and should incur no extra cost at all. All your chosen host needs to know is the domain name to set up your hosting account. Hope this helps! Kind Regards |
