Don't have MySQL on my server

I am setting up a few programs on a site I design and the server doesn't have localhost databases. I went to find a free one online and found one that was a little outdated, but was free as long as I linked to their site. I put an older version of the software on there to get it to work and after a day of running smoothly, I got a critical "can't connect" error and it wouldn't let me login through the phpmyadmin on their page like it did at first.

My question is, where can I find a database for my site?
Are there any good ones that I can get for free?
Can I find one somewhere to pay for? I wouldn't mind paying if it gets backed up and is up-to-date and reliable
