As the title says, I need hosting that has Apache 2, PHP 5.0.5, and MySQL 4.1.14.
Thanks, Dennis Liang |

Apache 2 is the beta release, why do you need that?

Servax,
I might have to say that finding a host with PHP 5.0.5 might be a bit difficult. Most mainstream programs that most hosts use work best on 4.3.11. I myself run 4.3.11 because most of the programs I have installed for my customers require it. If you are willing to compromise with 4.3.11, please restate and I will do my best to help you. Hi,
We have Apache 2, PHP 5.0.4 and mySQL 4.1.4 installed on our servers. Feel free to check us out at http://www.yupapa.com We can't upgrade to the next release of PHP (5.0.5) at this time as I have tested it and it is not compatible with phpBB. PHP is run as CGI and no loudsy permission problem you will experience since PHP will be run as your own uid/gid and not apache ~ Thanks ~ ![]()

We can do the PHP5 and the MySQL4 but the Apache2 we do not provide for stability and security purposes. While there are rarely any apache bugs, 1.3.33 is a time-tested release which is pretty certain to be bug-free and secure.
Finding a host running apache2 these days is no mean feat because it hasn't been subjected to this kind of testing and PHP still says it's module support for apache2 is in beta because it doesn't see it as being so reliable as apache 1.3.33. If that made any sense ![]() Anyway, take a look at our packages if you would like: We-FIX Technology - Cheap, reliable web hosting

Gawd it's unbearable on mod_cgi... My local testing server is apache2 and I haven't had any problems personally, but php technically says that support for apache2 is experimental... (see install.txt in the downloadable archive) Last edited by LinuxPenguin : October 14th, 2005 at 02:41 PM. |

Naw, CGI.
The problem I don't like is that apache has to fork off a process to run it, but at least it is convenient as you don't need to make the dir writable by apache to write files to it. And most people save database password in php file, with PHP running as CGI, you can do perms like 0600 don't have to make any file readable by apache, so it is more secure. Otherwise, anyone could see what's in your password file since all phps are running as user apache. Don't find it slow tho, it is not noticable ~ If you meant the INSTALL file, I don't see anything related to beta. I have php-5.0.4.tar.gz. Or you meant this? Quote:

The performance hit was definitely noticeable for us when we got a few hundred users requesting dynamic content. The other thing is about how you set it up, scriptaliasing etc. can allow arbitrary things to be run. Nope, let me go find what I mean... (Its definitely in PHP4, I installed it only a few weeks back) EDIT: It appears to have been removed from version 5... *shrugs*. PHP were always fools anyway. Like I said, I never had a problem on my local rig. /me wonders if you can configure cacheing with the php binary under CGI... Last edited by LinuxPenguin : October 14th, 2005 at 03:41 PM. |
