Hello,

The most important thing I need on a host is to be able to run drawing BBS applications. These are BBSes which users can make drawings in.

I need to be able to run traditional BBSes, image-uploading BBS applications, art drawing BBS applicatoins, and chat applications.

I have over 50 domain names. I need the host to support allowing my registrar to direct each domain to a different directory or subdomain in my account.

I need to be able to place 3rd party advertisements on my sites such as google ads.

I need to host a large number of large video files.

I would like to be able to use bit torrent software on the sites in order to reduce transfer useage on the host.

FTP: I need at least 10 FTP accounts, and potentially 40 or more.
I need to be able to restrict an FTP user to a specified directory. It would be a bonus if I could restrict 1 user account to 2 different directories.
I would like to be able to restrict the maximum sum of the file sizes that can fit in a directory.

I want to be allowed to chmod all my files to 777 and to use .htaccess files.

space: 6 gig minimum
transfer: 100 gig/month minimum

subdomains: 100 minimum

e. mail: I need a primary account, a catch-all account, and I'll need about 10 different e. mail acounts in the very short term and potentially I'll need to create 300 or more accounts.

mysql: I need to be able to create at least 10 mysqls.
I need to be able to run php/mysql/java based applications.

I prefer that the account come with web based software for account management. I would like to know what the software you have for this purpose is.

I would like to have an access log that records all user activity, or some equivilent. So for example, I could take the recorded information and see that the user with the ip 12.34.56.78 opened pages a.htm, b.htm, and a.cgi on June 15 2004.

I would like to find a company that responds quickly when I need service, and provides good customer service and support.
It would be a plus if the host is willing to help me should I need it in installing 3rd party software (such as a drawing-BBS). Odds are that if the host is responsive and provides good support anyway, I'd need minimal if any help in this area. (When I tried to install a drawing BBS with my last host, they spent weeks slowly replying to, and rarely appropriately answering nor taking action towards my inquiries. Then they finally said they won't support 3rd party software and closed the 'support ticket' after making me hastle with them all that time. Obviously I want to find a host that won't be like that.)

I considered $15/month to be pushing it for what I'm looking for, but its not a limit if there's a good enough offer for a few dollars more.
I'll take shared, dedicated, reseller, whatever as long as it allows what I want to do.

By the way, I'm not going to be using all the things I suggest right away~ I want the potential there so I can try them latter. (For example I could use 5-10 ftp accounts right now, but I might just want the potential for additional accounts should I add any staff members or choose to give users individual ftp accounts later.) I think there's something most web hosts lack from their business model, that they could make a small to medium sized client happy, and that client will stay with them when they become a big client later and need to buy even more web hosting.

edit: For anyone else who makes an offer, why not go ahead and let me know which of the above you can or can't do, and to what degree if there's a limitation.

IMHO a decent budget for all of those requirements is more like $25/mo.

With over 50 domains, you expect a reliable company to give you hosting for $15? Not to even speak of the resource usage you requested. I suggest at least doubling, even tripling your budget.

I highly suggest you do not go with a host that gives you "unlimited space/bandwidth!!!!!!!111" because it most certainly doesn't exist. A webhost MUST make profit to stay in business. People don't like pouring money into a business to get nothing back - that's not the capitalistic way.

You need 6 GB with 100 GB bandwidth? I would say that $25 a month is EXTREMELY cheap for what you need, and any webhost trying to get profit would charge $30+ (and even that's cheap).

Do these BBS applications require Windows? If so, then we can't help you. If they are linux/unix based, then I can help you (with hosting).

the reasons I said $15 include that I'm already getting like 83% of what I was asking for by buying two accounts, which totaled to about $10 a month. Most of the stuff I'm looking for are just non-restrictions. I figure for example that the number of e. mail accounts from any service which runs them off your own web space should mainly only be restricted by the memory space in that account. Also I've seen some places in that range that offer the space & transfer and allow most of what I want to do, but then there's some restriction like no bit torrent or no hosting of multiple domain names.

If its really that unusual to have a non-restricted account with 6 gb & 100gb transfer/month, I'll considering paying more. (But if its too much, I would think the price would be competing with me putting in a high speed line and running a server in my home.)

Well, thanks, but in this case I'd have to buy 3 accounts to get the amount of space I'm currently using plus 1 or 2 spare gigs. And (as I edited into the above post) $45/month would be way expensive.
I could compromise a bit on things like the number of e. mail accounts, but I'm not too interested in going lower than 6gb of space.

Go for a VPS, that's the only way you'll get everything.
