Hi,

In a discussion here and I wanted to get your opinions!!, If I was to launce a big community site, with approx 500.000 users what servers and bandwidth are we talking about ?

That would depend.

What sort of community are we talking about? If its an IRC or forum community, we might be talking of a lot more power than another sort of community.

Hi Fernando,, Its like a forum community, blogs and stuff!! but a lot of mysql queries!! ... But also with chat, <-- java or something!!

I understand. You might want to look into your budget a bit. What sort of prices are you looking to get. I would suggest, for the ammount of users you have said, at least a couple of servers or a dual server.

What does your budget look like?

For something like that consider a small server as the web server, with a large opteron dual 244 for the database. if you have the money check : www.rackspace.com
