Looking for good unix/linux host with the following characteristics...
I have just closed 2 accounts on GoDaddy because I finally figured out they really do suck when it comes to UNIX/Linux hosting. I am relatively knew with using PHP but I know how to code simple scripts and this particular site doesn't require major stuff, just a form to collect mailing list request, a form that I need to be emailed back to someone after it being filled out and I would really like to use DoDos mail script because it uses captcha security and is easy to modify. DoDos didn't work on GoDaddy.
I am looking for suggestions, someone who you have used or know that you would recommend where I can transfer 2 domains, have the account set up easily and who has good technical support concerning UNIX/Linux? Every time I called GoDaddy to assist with something the tech knew *nothing* about the Linux or PHP settings, it was pretty pathetic and I am pretty bummed at this point since the test site was supposed to be up yesterday…
Here are some requirements I am looking for…
1) Basically, I am looking for a hosting company who sets up their services without a lot of restrictions like GoDaddy. I also need client-side email support. I will also be doing some database stuff with MySQL and one or two more simple forms to take information from an online form and post it on another web page.
2) Space and Bandwidth looking for 50-100 gb would be fine...Bandwidth... I don't know much about that but the site needs to have one form that people can fill out and have it emailed to the people in the office, I was trying to get DoDos Mail script to work because it uses something called captcha for security and I like it very much but could not get it to work on GoDaddy. I would say that this would not be filled out more than 20-30 times a day, very low usage on the form and probably never more than 50 concurrent users at one time viewing the site.
3) I was originally looking for a UNIX box that uses Apache v 2.0 and PHP v 5 just because I am somewhat new to UNIX/Linux and PHP and also the testing server I set up on my machine uses Apache 2 and PHP 5. The main thing I am looking for is that the mail function in PHP enabled and that all the PHP and gd libraries are installed. Those are requirements for this particular script.
4) And, I am looking for a company who has decent support and knows about their server setup, will assist with issues when they arise, and that all logs, server and mail, are made available to the user.
Any assistance would be highly appreciated!
