In the quote you sent me, 1GB of extra ram is $34 a month? Why dont I just pay $99 one time for a 1GB of ram and send it to you? You also quoted me 80GB of HD space when I asked for dual 120's.

What about $300 a month?

Because of the fact that we are using Dell PowerEdge servers there are certain restrictions that we mus adhere to. The pricing structure that we are under dictates the $34/mo for RAM. As to the HDD storage space I could add a 2nd drive to that base server which would give you the capacity requested, a 160 GB S-ATA HDD would add $11/mo to the price that I sent you.

I am currently waiting for pricing from Dell on a system more similar to your original request.

Thanks,

Your original $250 is about 50% *minimum* below normal cost (yes cost, not retail). You should browse around, do some review research on the low cost ones you find and come back for us to compare and beat. You'll see that even $400 is still unreal for a Dual Xeon HT, 2GB RAM unmetered bandwidth. Just not realistic.

If you do not need unmetered or that much ram, I suggest you do some research of your project first. It only makes sense to let it grow and not jump to the king of servers on start, unless you're 100% positive you'll need the extra power and bandwidth.

$30 extra per month for a free OS?

1000GB bandwidth is not nearly enough.

I am trying to get something that I could grow within for the next few months and avoid the hassle of switching plans and paying huge bandwidth overage bills. Because hosting companies have the nasty habit of trying to get you something less than what you need and when you go over, charge you out the *** for it and then for the next best plan, quote you something waaaay more than they quoted 2 months ago. I have switched hosts too much before in the past because of broken promises and being unable to contact them after the sale or them saying I can use a said amount of bandwidth and then when I actually use it, they want to boot me off (and these are sold called 'expensive' hosts).

Just trying to make sure I get the right one this time without breaking my pockets.

Where do you see $30 extra a month for an OS? If you pay attention it says Enterprise ($30/mo) not Fedora or CentOS. Thank you

You had all of them along with commas back to back with each other which lead me to believe that all of them we're $30 a month. Next time clarify that when posting a quote instead of getting snappy.

I'm not snappy.

That's snappy for you my friend. Everyone knows that free O/S are free O/S and Enterprise is *usually* not free but additional per month, or commercial.

Hi Tanpisto,

After a few emails and i also see you still need this, i have done some research and can offer you this:
Dual 2.8GHZ Xeon
2gb Ram
2 x 120GB Hard Drives
3000GB of Data Transfer
$700/month for that beast.

Or I would suggest this one:
p4 2.8ghz (not dual xeon)
2x120gb Hdd
2gb Ram
Unlimited Bandwidth, 20mb/s unmetered.

$450/month.

Although its not dual xeon it certainly will cope with your bandwidth needs and as you are mainly serving (and not actually processing code) this should handle what you need it for.

If a lot of people are uploading stuff using the upload script, wouldn't that script need processing power?

Yes uploading will use processing power but its a very simple script and as lots of people are doing the same function that function will be cached and reused rather than having to reprocess it. This means that it will be optimised for most of the functions as they commonly occur.

$700 a month for dual xeon's? AHAHAHAHAHAHA. So you mean I'm paying $371 a month more for 2000GB of bandwidth as compared to Mr. virtuoso's plan. What is the name of your hosting company?

I keep calling you guys but my cellphone is in a bad signal area. You didn't post a name under your quote like most companies so I didn't know who to ask for. But if you can up that bandwidth to say 3000GB and lower it to $299 a month, then we have a deal.
