Question Suggestions for Virtual Server hosting

Dissatisfaction with current host (VServers/Hostpro) means we need a new host that offers virtual server capabilities - BSD, multiple domain hosting, access to Apache config files and modules, Perl, PHP, MySQL, sendmail, etc., etc., at between $50>$75 per month.

    Suggestions please.

    Thanks

    Hi

Is access to the config files an important thing as i work for a company which does everything you ask except that.

    Thanks.

Preferably, yes, or one ends up with .htaccess files scattered around...I also see no reference to command line access via your hosting co. and one mysql database is a bit restrictive for our requirements

    Thanks anyway.

    Hi.

OK how long would you be willing to wait as we are trying to improve the packages over the next few months with adding a dedicated server but dont know how long that would take. Then we would be able to give you all that.

    Thanks.

We can offer everything, you would not have direct access to httpd.conf but we can quite haperly edit to suit your needs.

We also offer your own instance of MySQL so you have full root access

    forefront,
for the range you say I do not know what to suggest you.

I have a doubt for choosing Verio VPS or Hostpro/freedom400x,
but I see that you are not satisfied with hostpro.
Is it possible to know why you are not satisfied with hostpro?
Next week I will have to choose beetwen Verio and Hostpro,
and I would like to make right choice (it's the 3rd time I change web hosting!).
Also Hostpro plan can manage one database at a time :-(((.

    Thank you in advance!

    A suggestion:
Ask them If you can modify the httpd.conf,
If not ask them how they have compiled apache and which module they load inside httpd.conf.
If they can let you access .htaccess, you can ask them
if they have installed the mod_rewrite module.
I discovered this with my last web hosting company!

Thanks for the suggestions. IMHO since VServers was acquired by Host Pro the quality and "service-mindedness" of technical support has declined.

I just (3 days) started using Blue Reef, who are actually themselves hosting up the line with IServers (whom I have also have a few clients with).

OK; the IServers setup is well-known and works well but to date I am very impressed with the quality of tech. support (pre- and post-sales) from the Blue Reef team. It appears a good combination of features, performance and helpful humans :-)

IServers are good in performance, though the tech support can be a bit "brusque"

    Thanks for the links,
they are very interesting (iserver, is a Verio company).
Maybe I will move to Verio (www.verio.com) when they will answer to my questions about of how many databases I can create.

    //Questions 'bout bluereef
Maybe I could ask to them (bluereef),
but does buereef let you create more than one MySQL database?
I see that you can install many Database servers with vinstall,
but once create the MySQL one I think it's possible to have more than one database.
(For virtual hosting, it could be usefull to have separates dbs).

Also If you like to update the MySQL server, or Apache or Php, is it possible?

    Thanks for tips/suggestions.

You get your own MySQL server so you can create databases until you've used up all your quota if you like :-)

And updating MySQL server is possible. As for Apache/PHP not sure BUT as BR and IS are pretty savvy I think you wil find the most recent versions are generally available...again, check with them
