A simple information portal needs review

I am currently working on a website Pakistani Pride this website is a information portal that contains articles on various topics related to Pakistan. I am not really a web designer and have just a little know how of PHP/Mysql and HTML. I was thinking that there must be some errors or mistakes in my site's design and I have no expert around to point them out to me. I would really appreciate if any one of you can review my website. Please not that the site is still under construction so you may not be able to see much content inside but for sure it has a navigational structure and all links work. I would be really looking forward to hear from PHP programmers if they have some tips to improve my site's programming.

..

Why the color scheme, sorry for my ignorance but is that something to do with national colors?

It looks like you've designed it for usability and I didnt check out the code but as for the look and feel, I'd have a look around at other sites that impress you and try and read up on a few articles on website do's and donts there are plenty out there.

change a few things like heading sizes of home and PP for example. and i dont know about everyone else but i think putting a google search in the top right hand corner of your front page is a good way to get people to bypass your website altogether.

you could use your front page for a news section for example so that your not displaying your category links twice right next to each other.

Yes the color scheme represents colors in national flag. Ok So I should move the google search from top right corner to the bottom or totally remove it? I was also thinking about heading sizes I will reduce them. I have a question that I would like to ask you guys. Well I have links to the categories on right but I dont have much content to fill the screen. Does any one of you have any suggestion to fill in the empty space on both sides?

I wouldnt decrease those heading sizes I would make em larger, and as for the google search, if it was me I would remove it, or if you do want to keep it, hide it down the bottom as you said and make it consistent on every page.

as for the things on the side, why not leave them blank or even put advertising spots on the right hand side so that companies can advertise there. you could also offer it as a column for someone to write in, theres plenty of options

looks like its gonna be a work in progress you could even have your own site search in that spot, theres a few third party tools that can do that for you, or you can have a go at it yourself by following a couple tutorials

ok I will try increasing the heading sizes. About filling the space. Well I dont think that I would be able to get advertisement and I think it is a bad idea to fill the space with download blah blah blah screensavers and emoticons kind of advertisement. The third party search tools sound like a nice idea for the time being. Thank you for your helpful advices dirkpitt I will come back in next 24 hours with an improved version of my website.
