i think that the site is really good
![]() however, i have two small points: when the page first loads, i dont think that the ENTER button is large enough, at first I couldn't see what to do, and I also think that it should say If flash player needed, because most people will have it anyway secondly, the countdown for the flash site, why does it have a zero in between each number keep up the good work ![]() |

It has horizontal scrolling and horizontal scrolling is one of the, if not the, most hideous features of web design.
Using table width="1024" is almost never acceptable. Even on a 1024 resolution, after adding the width of the scroll bar on the right, it causes horizontal scrolling. On a smaller resolution, like 800x600, forget about it. ![]() I am against using JavaScript. I am not the only one. I have both Flash and JavaScript disabled as many other net users. While JavaScript can add extra features, web designers should make sure that the site will function without them. I can not enter the site as the link is embedded in a JavaScript. Even then it leads to a flash page. <a href="javascript:moviepopup('home.swf','770','490','no','no');"> While I can manipulate the URL to get to that page, the fact that a designer is forcing people to install and use Flash would be annoying to many advanced users. There are no other link to enter the site so users with older browsers or browser not supporting flash or JavaScript [and there are many on other platforms, WebTV, non-graphic browsers etc] would not be able to enter the site. I, like some other user, will always miss a site which has everything in Flash or JavaScript. Pop ups are another no-go area. All POP up reminds me of Porn sites. There is no CSS. You should consider using CSS for all formatting. Good luck ![]()

fair comment
small glitch on the size it was always intended to be 750 wide check again, that has been sorted
as far as java and flash are concerned that is your opinion and you are welcome to it, but to class a flash web site as something resembling a porn pop up is a bit extreme and yes i could make another web link to a pure html site and i may do that in the future, but not yet, not on your say so but hey, your comments are welcome and herd Bing ps what would people with non-graphic browsers want with a image based portfolio site Last edited by bing66 : March 27th, 2004 at 06:34 PM. |

That was not my intention. ![]() Quote:
I was referring to pop-up windows not flash intros. I said Pop-ups remind me of porn sites as they were the ones who abused pop-ups causing the stigma to be attached. As you have mentioned, these are my personal opinion and every designer is also entitled to their opinions. Size: no still the same problem as the sizes in td and img are overriding the sizes in table ![]() There are many users on non-graphical browsers. For one, they are much faster than normal browsers as they do not need to download images and many other display elements. However, information, i.e. someone looking for a designer in Wales may be of use to them. I shall add that such users may form less that 1% of your visitors, so it is up to you. Overall compatibility increases greatly with less non-html-CSS elements like JavaScript and Flash. In any case, good luck and remember this thread 3 years down the line. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Clan admin : March 27th, 2004 at 06:53 PM. Reason: Additional text |

first the "enter" should be in a a-tag,
as there is no way to tell that is a link by mouseover it. ie you are not geting a pointer, so you might think its a brokenlink, not very intuitive. ( you could use the cursor property in css, but it is better to use the a-tags as that is what they are for) it is also bad that you don't have a html alternative page for no-flash visitors, for the flash part, the menu is not good, it considered bad UI when you have to mouseover the buttons to see where they lead, and you even got an extra button at the end that doesn't seem to lead anywhere, making the navigation more confusing than it should be. read more about mystery meat navigation in the animation section you should say which movie format the animations is in, and you should also display the animations name on the page not just the size. something like Castle (843kb wmv) |
