C&C my portfolio please - Canada || US

The URL is:
http://waynemarsh.web1000.com

It took me about a month to get going. I just learned html 4.01 in late april to early may. I like it. It's a bit new technology intensive, meaning older browsers might not show it up right. I plan on making a redirect for older browsers to a page they can view, even lynx and other text based browsers. I'm no web developer professional but I try.

I figured out all my stupid mistakes on my own, noone would answer my stupid questions...Can't blame 'em

Well, what do you think?

The search doesn't work because this wasn't the intended URL but web1000 is being a pain in the *** and won't give me my other URL and I'm working on making a newer project arch site. My next little project since my cousin is busy.

[edit]
Web1000 doesn't allow people outside of the US and one country of your choice to visit the site. So it seems to me anyway.
[/edit]

Thanks
Wayne

Showed up fine for me in the US. The layout's pretty good. If you have the option, you should redraw your aliens at a higher resolution, then scale them down for the site. Right now you have aliasing around the edges, which makes the site look a little less professional. Also, the 3D balls with the very flat drawing of the alien (no shading at all) looks off.

But it's a programming site, so the graphics might not mater. But they're the only things keeping it from looking very professional.

i don't like (and i don't seee any use) the horizontal scroll bar you have inside the squares...

the site is simple but very understandable and easy to navigate (another good thing is that loads fast)

Thanks for your comments

The speed is due to my efforts to make it fast, I load the images only the first time you visit the site after that just the text cahnges in the object/square.

Oh and I have anti-aliasing on my card, I see what you mean now.

I bet you're using IE. In any other browsers the horizontal scroll bars are gone. I'm not an MS fan but I'm trying to make it look relativly the same in all browsers...did you notice the gay border abour the object as well? I tried getting rid of the scrollbars before and then I moved to an object because in Netscape, Mozillas and Opera it looks great. However the free version of Opera has this huge assed banner in the top right that doesn't make me want to buy it, it makes me hate it! Then again I'm not wealthy, I could brealy afford my VS 6.0 when I got it and now that VS .net 2003 is out and costing $5,000, I feel that my career is going to slip last the cracks since I can't afford it, I've only use a schools edition and a development edition that I don't own.

I would gladly take any suggestions to get rid of the horizontal scrollbars in the object or get rid of the "gay border" in IE 6.0, that's the only one I saw it in anyway. Also in IE6.0 for windows 98 it doesn't look the same as in IE6.0 for XP, there is no horizontal scrolling or gay border. It is a gay border because what's the point of it, it makes the site fugly. Yeah I did a halfassed job of the alien, but there is shading, just not much.

I don't have a scanner and I can't draw with a mouse. I used a Logitech ClickSmart 420, digital camera, to get it onto my site. Very unpleasant process.

I plan on redrawing them and putting them on again when I get a scanner but for now that will have to do, takes too much work to clean up a 1.4 MPX drawing on a camera that sucks if it's not the perfect light...paper looks like brown, as if aged in an ancient church from the times of King Arthur :P

I will make an effort to get rid of the MS junk on there and to redraw the images, the drawings weren't that good either. I have no idea why it scrolls horozontal in IE and not any other browsers I've tested it with. Then again I've only been using HTML 4.01 since march or may this year...

Thanks again

PS there were stepped down just not that much, less than half the size :P

Oh and I'm not good at drawing. I can doodle...

Red face

I blew it up to 800 x 640 and then I retraced it and then colored it, made a box and colored it, gave it some shadows and hope you like the better one. I didn't redo the other on euntil I get some C&C on the alien in the top left corner, holding a box. I'll redo the alien using the keyboard when I get some C&C, thanks. I'm glad someone told me to redo the images, I didn't like the original version that much, looked sloppy. But I'm lazy so someone needed to tell me it sucked. Thanks I am satisfied with the new one so I hope you like it it took me an hour or so to do

Thanks again

You guys commented on the images before and I redid them both, there is one problem though. I'm a new designer and I don't know what I'm doing. I don't it's not going to be an awesome site but your opinion counts to me, unlike my own.

I plan on getting a career in computers and not just one aspect. I plan on working for a "big-time" company, or open source volonteer work since I've had my share of free/open source software. I also plan on making a second income with a linux cluster project I want to have running. It's going to start out as a web hosting server and I may have dedicated clusters for other things like gaming down the road.

That's my life plan, sounds boreing but I like it and I need any critique on how I could get this done, like commenting on my images since I will most likely be doing websites and programming at the same time. I chose such a busy life in computers because programming eventually gets boreing, so they say, and so does prety much anything you do, but if I can switch from one to another, and have the knowledge and skills to do so it'd be great. I plan on having a steady income with my web hosting, making offeres as people are leaving for a better offer.

I don't know I might be crazy but that's my plan. I'd like it if someone could take a look at the "new" site, it's a new URL as well. http://waynemarsh.web1000.com. Thanks for reading...my bump/request.
