I just implemented a new layout today, so there is a few errors, but for the most part, it works smoothy.

I, being the adventurous type, clicked enter even though I was at work and the splash screen had a picture of KY gelly. You'll find many people who will curse at you for even having a splash page, let alone one with KY on it.
Your logo need it's edges cleaned up... seems kind of raggedy around the edges. Make it blend with the background. Rollovers for the menu are nice. There is a lot of empty space between content, width-wise. I would suggest pulling in the edges. Consider putting all of your content in a div around 778px wide (so our 800x600 friends don't have trouble) and center it. Consider not white as a background. I think black would even work without you changing any of the other colours. I like your fake virus though. Good times can be had sending that to a couple friends. Making personal sites is tough, but keep it up. |

Seconding for axing the splash. Not only do visitors dislike it, as do search engines.
Logo's hard to read. Looks like you went a bit crazy with the blending options in Photoshop. Try doing a few tutorials and utilize what you've learned on your own site. Counters are a neat feature, though degrade professionalism of your site. Being a personal site, I can see you may not care for this, but it may deter potential visitors. Lots of hidden counters are available allowing you to see your hits, though preventing the average joe from seeing your count. That advertisment you've got bounces around from page to page horizontally. When it does, it looks more of an addition to clutter than anything else. The way you put Site Policies and Site News on either side of the bottom portion of the browser looks unorganized. Try setting up one navigation and avoiding additional sections from being advertised elsewhere outside of it. Or, if you feel the need to seperate these two in specific from the rest, put them more easily locatable like at the top just below your header. I'd work on throwing some seperators or structure up to help with organization. Each thing in its own respect is decently designed, though together they're rather mismatched. Learning to setup sites more efficiently can be done by browsing the internets mass of successful stabs. If you like what someone else has done, like the tutorials, try to impliment it to yours with your own spin on it. Don't blattenly copy someone elses creations, but consider them suggestions. Best of luck. |
