I'm working on a dynamic signature script just kind to develop my knowledge of PHP and the GD library so I figured I'd go for it all the way just for fun.
NOTICE: I know it's not CSS and is not validated yet (note the yet). I just want PURELY design crutiques for now, thanks. http://dino.angry-lizard.com/

i think it looks really nice. i don't understand why there are 2 sets of username and password boxes...one to sign up and one to sign in? if so, seems flawed?

The code is finished
I have finished coding the beta version of this site. Users can now sign up and make their own signatures and everything.
Beta testers MORE than welcome! Thanks http://dino.angry-lizard.com |

I wouldn't think they would have any problem with it. Competetion drives creativity and if anything we'll all benefit.
I would value their input. |

Well, the design is fantastic, but then seeing some of your other stuff you've done, that's no real surprise
![]() The site is very easy to use, registration is very simple and creating a signature was also simple. But, the first time I logged on, there was a message on the user page telling me that the user details could not be updated. This seems to happen every time I log in to the site - "There was an error updating your information. You may have left something blank or entered an invalid email address. Please retry." On the user page, the code for the image links to http://www.angry-lizard.com/usersigs/4.php for me. I think you need to change www to dino to get rid of that 404 error. Once I've logged in, I still see the login and register sections. Perhaps this could be replaced by a link to the control panel for registered users. It just seems strange that if I go to the privacy policy, for example, from my control panel I have to log back in before I can access my signature controls. Otherwise, the site is great - good luck with it ![]() [edit] One other thing - the registration email comes from "Nobody" and a strange email address. Perhaps this would look better if it came from DinoSIG with an email address something like dinosig@dino.angrylizard.com [/edit] Last edited by edwinbrains : October 2nd, 2004 at 02:32 AM. |

Thank you for the input edwin. It's little errors like that I cannot pick up myself.
As for the login/logout stuff, I'm gonna put session handlers into every page on the site and remove the login/get an account stuff for logged in users soon (probably tomorrow) and I will fix that error you were getting about user info asap. Thanks again for the input. Anyone else is welcome to register and give me your advice as well. [EDIT] The user info error was fixed... I was combining if statements when I shouldn't have Next... creepy nobody email thingie ![]() [EDIT AGAIN] Ok I'm done for the night and the email thing has been fixed now too with the addition of a nice header. More work to do tomorrow. yay Last edited by angrylizard : October 2nd, 2004 at 02:49 AM. |

thanks. it's not super origional but it's a cool project none the less. I have seen other people with dynamic signatures in the past but edwin and computer I think were the frst to offer it as a service and as it stands right now, their service is wayy more advanced than mine, but what I have now is not bad for 2 days worth of development.
up next is putting session handlers on every page and then I want to design compact signatures (like maybe 16 pix high) there's a lot of work ahead |

Ok fixed a few more things...
no more links to get a new account or log in when already logged in, instead it shows user status and relevant links in the log in field. also, replaced sign up box with an invite a friend box for logged in users as well. it's coming along quite nicely |

that makes sense and looks much better now. The "User Preferences" button is also good, as I don't think there was one before, and you had to log in again to access the control panel. |

Pause for thought

Yes - it's a great idea (namely edwinbrains and computers 'idea'), and this site has clearly been 'inpsired' by Dynasig. Healthly competition, that's fine, but a more original idea like this? And being created just under a month after Dynasig, then parading it here, knowing full well that it looks great? After all, you've created plenty of decent web-sites in the past. Edwinbrains is a good tempered guy, and he wouldn't say anything, but I am annoyed. And you're saying that the idea isn't 'original'. Yes - that's where you are right. I can see many 'similarities' between the two - look at the descriptions - your site uses his slogan 'Dynamic Forum signatures' - you show an example of how simple the code for these signatures is, just like edwin and computer did. There are many more, and I really have better things to do than point them out here. It's a free world, and a free internet, but a bit of originality wouldn't go amiss. |
