First of all, resize those pictures. Rather use a thumbnail picture than the fullsize image for the "Photo of the month" on the front-page. there is lots of severside scripts that can do this automatically. The fullsize image is i over 700k, and it is not kind to the the browser do the resizing.
I think you need to work on the colour choice, the menu has to little contrast. and the red and blue text in the content area does not go well with the background-colour. Take a screen shot then grey scale it and you'll see why those colours don't mix.
