The general look is fantastic imho, with the exception of the big black border around the whole thing which I think is a little overpowering

As with everything though, looks aren't everything, but as you only asked for comments on looks, i'll keep shushed up.

I agree with Three and think the general look is fantastic. On the other hand, I felt the border brought out the navigation and works splendidly. One quam I have is the lack of your sites title being displayed somewhere, anywhere, but no where.

I think instead of a bold black border you should use a drop shadow. Adds a very artistic feel and adds depth to an obviously artistic site.
