Hi,

I was wondering what you think of my new web site design:

http://www.davidtattersall.me.uk

It's all written in css, and I'm currently writing a weblog / news module for it.

Thanks

The layout is very basic. Add some sort of originality to the website. Alot of sites out there just arent doing anything original anymore. IF you find something original it will increase people's interest in the site dramaticly.

Design is nice and simple.
A few things though. The header image looks a bit unsharp, I suggest you use a better quality on it.

Also, when viewed with Opera, the navigation links doesn't work... I mean they are not beside each other, they are on top of each other.

How do you mean basic? As in, quite literally, simple? I always thought that being simple, clean nad smart was the best way to go when developing - as in sites such as a list apart.
With regards to content, yes it's probably not doing too much new. But, a personal site showcasing your work can only get so innovative. My last version of the site was incredibly complex and full of PHp but lots of it was never used. Who honestly uses a site-wide pm system?
Anyway I'll try to add some more sticky content.

@kimppa:

lol, "design nice and simple"

I'll have a look at the opera bugs, I know somebody with the latest opera and it worked for him; but I'll look further. I code with IE6 and mozilla, I often think that if it can work correctly in mozilla it can work correctly in anything

If it's any help, I was using Opera 7.03 on WinXP to view the site.

Simplicity is the best for ANYTHING. Dont listen to people who say that the site is too simple. Adding junk just for the sake of having junk on the site just makes it look...junky. Great lookin site. A good start!
My only suggestion is to clean up the images you use to be more crisp.
other than that. Nice layout. Small download. good colors. Keep it up!

Nice site. Reminds me a lot of Dan Cederholm's SimpleBits web site.

Yes. I used his CSS to help me with the columns, it's the only thing I can't do in css >_<

Don't worry, the code is freely useable:

Can I use your site design?
While any of the markup or CSS on this site is yours for the taking, please do not re-use any of the original graphics from the site. Thank you, kind people.

I didn't copy any of his images, apart from a grey-to-white gradient. It's had to make one gradient from grey to white differentiate from another gradient from grey to white.

Font for the sitename on the bar at the top should be better. Also, not very nice the blinking effect when navigating between subpages. 7/10

Hi David, as a website designer I like your site. Its quite elegant and simple (in a good way) and is easy to navigate. You've resisted the temptation to fill spaces with animations/blinking text etc and thats to be applauded.

If you need help with sorting out your logo please drop me a line, it would take a few mins.

All the best

I like the site. Professional web design has certainly gone away from cheesy graphics so don't be tempted to add them unless they mean something significant to your site's purpose.

Your banner text seems a bit fuzzy - you may have tried to stretch it too much in the actual html code instead of when you created the graphic.

The Contact link didn't bring up anything.

Otherwise, looks good.
