looks pretty good but I would move the right column down below the header and center the header. That may not leave enough room though you may want to make the column narrower or widen the header to keep visual symmetry.

i must admit i don't love it. not terrible but makes your service look lke its from '99. definitely looks quite outdated.

even though the subject matter is quite different, take a look at sites like digg, facebook etc for aesthetic advice because it can significantly affect the appeal of your service.

Layout on blog pages is messed up in IE 7. The brown recent entries column is disappearing underneath the ad column.

Thank you! Missed seeing that on my monitor (it had to do with browser windows opened beyond 1024 pixels width and I rarely do that, since most sites don't have anything out there).

@raphdan: it's a freelance business directory, not a social networking site. Post a link to a business directory that looks cool and I'll understand better the possibilities that my competitors are realizing.

@vexartstudio: I played with a bunch of different options, but this one just stuck out. Everything to the right of the logo in the header is a waste to me, but not sure what else I could put there that would be useful while not distracting from people using the site for its intended purpose.
