I'm looking for some design tips on my personal web page: http://www.luci.ca
More specifically, what may need addressing is the colour scheme and the general ouline of the page (which I guess "design" sums up making this sentence totally unnecessary). Content kind of sucks, and I'll gradually work on that too, but there isn't that much cool content you can have on a personal web page. That said, any recommendations about anything, including content, are welcome. If you don't want to post anything here, please at least use the poll on the main page of the site to tell me what you think of the design. |

I think the site looks great though some people aren't as partial to the color scheme you have.
It's also quite neat and tidily designed. Being a personal website, it's lacking content wise for a larger audience so I wouldn't expect a flood of visitors anytime soon. G'luck. |

any suggestions on improving this a bit without a complete overhaul? like maybe a solid orange (some shade thereof) background for the content, with the textured background around it... or maybe the reverse? any ideas? |

My opinions...
+ Obvious navigation.. + mouseover link effect + consistent colors - your left column (the navigation, webmail) probablly be a little wider.. the poll choices are hard to read and look funny, many people prob won't attempt to read/poll if is difficult.. you know what I mean? - some seperation of the content in left column poll looks good, nav and webmail should prob be similar to the nav effect.. - content in the body is very cramped looking, for each day there should be some more 'whitespace' (empty space) to help the flow of the content.. or similar effect of the poll |

I dont particuly like the orange, but thats just me probably. I like the general layout of the page but maybe you could change to a different font.

I'll see what I can do... - some seperation of the content in left column poll looks good, nav and webmail should prob be similar to the nav effect.. hmm? - content in the body is very cramped looking, for each day there should be some more 'whitespace' (empty space) to help the flow of the content.. or similar effect of the poll I tried putting an extra line in between posts but it didn't look good at all... to me anyways... to which effect of the poll are you refering? Aphonik: maybe you could change to a different font for which text? any suggestions? |

use a different background for your main area, not the tiled one you have one now, you could leave the tiled background in the body tag and put a solid background as your main background for your content.

I tried the solid background, but in orange... with the tiled background I have I doubt anything else would look nice... you can look at it here http://www.luci.ca/?new=1 to see what you think... I can change that to whatever I want 'cause it's not the default page, so that'll be my testing page...
A few people (not just here) said that they don't like the colour scheme... if you have any suggestions on a different colour scheme, please suggest away! |

I tried a blue colour scheme here: http://www.luci.ca/?new=2 (ignore remnants of the other scheme) but I don't like it at all... too depressing...
thoughts? |

I like the blue color scheme, I dont think it looks depressing, your top graphic looks really good against the blue background. Maybe you could change the font of the main body of text to make it look more spaced out and less like a chunk of text (sorry if I wasnt clear about this earlier), I would recommend Arial or Tahoma.
